Wisdom Teaching Example

I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly – John 10:10

The active life has a way of making us feel dependent on things. We need a vote here, a meal there, some money or some transportation or some support. In the frenzy of doing daily business in the world, we are seduced into believing that we are totally dependent on the world’s resources….

A life of prayer is a life that constantly returns us to a place removed…. This is the heart of prayer, this journey from illusion to truth….

As we settle into deep listening for God’s word, how ludicrous the grasping ways of daily life become. In that silence and solitude, alone with the Alone, the world’s version of scarcity is seen as a snare and a delusion, while God’s promise of abundance comes to us not as future possibility but as present reality.

Perhaps this is the most amazing destination of the way of prayer, this understanding that the abundance we want and need is around us and within us, here and now.  We need only turn toward it and live our lives in ways that make it manifest – Parker Palmer

Question for Silent Reflection:  Where have you experienced abundance this week? This month?
