As the world swelters under record-breaking heat, ablaze by wildfires, more severe storms, increased drought, a warming rising ocean, loss of species, lack of food to feed the masses, more health risks, poverty and the displacement of entire human populations, what is the response of the people of faith?
“I do not know,” seems to be a fair answer. But does that allow our individual and collective consciences to dismiss the command of Jesus to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves?
It slowly became clear to me that God has chosen me to do this work of evangelism, creation care and racial reconciliation ever since I entered seminary in 2015. I was ordained deacon in God’s one, holy, catholic and apostolic church in 2018 to live a life of servanthood and to interpret the needs, hopes and dreams of the world to the church and invite the church to go out into the world to respond to those needs. To come alongside and stand with our neighbors.
This work God has given me to do connects me! It has changed my life forever as I now find myself being one with God, one with my neighbor, and one with all of God’s good creation. I no longer live in a silo of separation unto myself, but by the mercy and grace found in living a life in Christ, I have found unity and oneness.
In the face of climate change, how do people of faith respond? This is the time of year where people of faith have been gathering for more than 25 years in their churches and in communities worldwide to answer this question for themselves, their communities and for our ever-connected world as part of Seasons of Creation.
I invite you to participate in the Season of Creation 2023, from September 1 through October 4, 2023. This is an opportunity to let God’s justice and peace flow like a mighty river through you!
And here’s the really good news: living a life in Christ is open to everyone! It’s as simple as breathing in and breathing out. We just need to show up! So why not come and take a walk with me?
