Abe Louise Young
Abe Louise Young is a writer, writing coach and book editor in Austin, Texas.
Themes she’s obsessed with are creativity, trauma and healing, empathy, beauty in the ordinary, real social change and fixing what’s broken with whatever tools we have around.
She’s the author of Heaven to Me: Poems and Queer Youth Advice for Educators: How to Respect and Protect Your LGBTQ Students. Her work has appeared in The Nation, Narrative Magazine, Poetry, Texas Monthly and elsewhere, and has been awarded a Grolier Poetry Prize, a Story Prize from Narrative magazine, the Bellevue Literary Review Poetry Prize, and others. She holds an MFA in Writing from the James Michener Center for Writers at UT Austin, and a BA from Smith College.
In 2017, she was honored to be nominated as Best Activist in Austin 2017 by the Austin Chronicle. She’s previously served as co-director of Prizer Arts & Letters, a center for socially engaged arts and literature and as director of communications at Texas CASA.
